What I mean is just what this chapter is called. I want you to remove the word “Balance” from your vernacular. I want you to stop trying so hard to “Balance” your life. I want you to live it. Now, I know this may seem odd to you but stick with me and you’ll soon get the point. For so many years I sought “Balance” in my life. I was focused on balancing the Physical, Spiritual, Financial and Emotional that I even created a training program around it called “The Success Cube”. Well, it was all well and good in theory but when practically applied it was next to impossible to achieve even though I focused like a laser on it.
So, I started asking around only to find that most other people that were likewise focused on creating balance in their lives were having the same problem. What I realized in the process is that all things on the planet are linked in one way or another. I realized that by trying to balance specific areas of my life with each other I was really causing an imbalance. I was not focusing on the things that mattered most. The result was that I was “balanced” but always running around like an idiot trying to get important things done because I had spent too much time shoring up one aspect of my life or another. It’s nuts. Once I realized that everything in my life is linked and that it’s all just part of one being and that proportion matters I was freed from the lie of living a “Balanced Life”. Most people would consider my lifestyle out of balance. After all, I can work 2-3 hours a day and still earn more money in a year than 95% of the people in the United States. I can take off with my family and go to some great place and come back when we feel like it without any measurable negative effects on our lives. In fact we most likely would have had a life enhancing experience wherever we went.
I do not spend my day chained to a desk, mobile device, pager, boss, office, company or anything else for that matter. If I feel like having a casual Tuesday or Wednesday I just get up and go put on the blue jeans and t-shirt and bum around. I do not carry a formal planner or keep an ongoing task list. I do plan my day but then I just get everything done every single day and have no carry over to the next day. My “To Do” list is a clean slate every evening before I sleep unless of course a “honey do” creeps in at 10PM in which case I add it to the list for the following day. The whole point of this chapter is to inspire you to not get hung up on trying to create balance in your life. Rather, just go out and live life, enjoy it, design your lifestyle and focus on what matters most.
Am I suggesting that you not focus on the important areas of your life like the Spiritual, Physical, Financial and Emotional? No, I am not suggesting that at all. What I am suggesting is that you go forward with purpose and intention in the direction of what you desire while enjoying a meaningful spiritual life, a healthy and fit physical reality, an abundant financial circumstance and a strong emotional presence devoid of ego and any belief that you need to “balance” everything. Just go live life.
