For two weeks I have intentionally been focusing on people that I come across to try and determine their level of acceptance of established standards in their lives. The result has been utter amazement. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the vast majority of people seem to just accept the standard and live within the confines of it. I am not professionally qualified to figure this out from a medical or psychological perspective but I can tell you one thing. I am qualified to draw my own conclusions as to what is going on.
People live their lives in a trance. Although they claim sanity and cognizance I am not so sure that they really know how "insane" and "asleep" they are while going through their daily routine. How nuts is it for someone to keep doing the same thing they have always done while expecting a different result than they have always experienced? I think it is completely nuts. How asleep is someone that remains in an unhappy place in their career because it is "comfortable"? I think that this person must live on the drug Ambien.
Find the standard and then work to reset the bar for yourself and those you love. Do not accept the standard as a goal. Set your personal standards higher than those set by others and you will live a much happier, healthier and certainly wealthier life.
